Un-Sleeper

Thoughts on insomnia

Speechless insomniac,

seeking dreams

as flames reaching for oxygen,

and as quiet in the night

like still waters on a lake or

branches without wind.

Putting up fights against sleep,

oh insomnia, you pant for

chatter in the mind, a steady

constant. No ease or comfort,

no magical sand to give mercy

to such heavy lids which call for

closure; this mind races, there’s

no break for tired eyes. Life's

inanimate, the rush hour: snail pace.

Downtown: down time; all sleep

and rest the dark away. Un-sleeper,

fade! Drift slowly, meander no

more for the morning dawns.

Sunrise my sunshine, new day

arise, but you still come up

insomnia; it went far, won much, its

reasons unkind. Wind down quarrels,

sleeper. Tuck in and fall to sleep.

Be tried no more. Rest now, stubborn

thought. Be done, you kind soul.
